Water Program

The primary function of the water program is to monitor and protect Pala’s surface and groundwater resources and maintain compliance with federal water quality standards. The program also focuses closely on water conservation, drought mitigation, and watershed health.

Pala Environmental Department’s Water Program coordinates with the Pala Utility Department to make sure that the community’s drinking water is safe and meets Federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards. PED publishes Pala’s Annual Water Quality Report every June, and prepares other reports and plans that help protect our water resources.

If you ever have questions about the water quality in your home, we can come out or provide you with test kits to check it. We can also go over test results with you or help you find the best water filter for your home.

Water conservation is very important, so we can help individual homeowners conduct home audits to assess their home’s fixtures and appliances, adjust when and how they water their lawns, and identify the types of plants they have in their yard. There are lots of native plants that require little or no watering, have beautiful blooms, attract butterflies and birds, and look great in your yard.

Reach out to us or visit Pala Atáxam Pemtew’náan’a (Pala People’s Garden) next to the Pala Admin Building if you would like to know more about these plants, or the types of plants that do well in our clay soils.
